What a gift is for

Love

What is a gift for?

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 13:13 · ESV

“The key to our growth toward maturity in Christ is love, and it is also a reasonable indication according to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, of true spirituality.”

Advanced Practicum, ch. 5 · May 2019

Love is the middle term. Gift, then love, then edification.

Twelve, thirteen, fourteen. Love is the test, not the finale.

C. K. Barrett · 1968

Love is not one more gift in the row. It is the scale the others sit on.

Gift + Love = Edification

Love was.

Impressive was never the point.

Gifts without love become spectacle. Gifts held in love become service.

A later saying

The purpose of life is to discover your gift.

The work of life is to develop it.

The meaning of life is to give your gift away.

David Viscott, 1993

The two-line form that circulates under other famous names is a later compression. There is no strong evidence Picasso said it.

From the film. The purpose is to give it away.

Certainty can fail.

Knowledge can fail.

Interpretations can fail.

What should remain?

Love.

Knowledge without humility can become certainty too soon.

Revelation without discernment can become harm.

A gift without love can become a spectacle.

A gift held in love can become service.

What has been trying to get her attention?

What has been trying to get yours?

Receive carefully.
Discern deeply.
Give in love.
Build and not break.

Cipher rhymes here are correspondence, not proof. Love is the ethical center whether or not a number returns.
